This first part of this seminar will outline car rental’s specific cybersecurity exposures and then present current approaches to deleting renters’ private data — not an easy feat for fleets with multiple makes and models.

Ponentes: Lourdes Reveles -  Mex Rent A Car, Simon Ward - Cartrawler, Felipe Ocáriz - Volaris

Rental car consumers in many Latin American countries must contend with a service offering that causes countless customer complaints and dissatisfaction. However, a growing customer offering is the prepaid rate, which is often inclusive of products offered at the counter. Inclusive, prepaid rates drive a better customer experience, they’re obviously higher than the advertised initial rate, and help fleet management by minimizing no-shows that plague pay-on-arrival. This seminar will discuss these factors and how to structure and market an inclusive, prepaid rate that is a win for both the rental company and the customer.

Presenters:Lourdes Reveles -  Mex Rent A Car, Simon Ward - Cartrawler, Felipe Ocáriz - Volaris

Ponentes: Carlos Vuillaume - rentalcars.com; y Luis Miguel Navarrete - Avis México

Extremists do not share a common profile and might be self-radicalized and self-trained. Their experiences and motives are often distinct and increasingly unpredictable, and they’re willing to act alone — making them difficult to identify and stop. In a compelling first for the International Car Rental Show, FBI special agents will educate car rental operators on the catalysts of violent extremism and demonstrate the ways to identify at-risk individuals who may be going down a path of targeted violence. As well, an FBI private sector coordinator will reveal the resources and points of contact available to the car rental industry and the private sector to work together to protect our nation’s economy and national security.

4:35 PM - 5:30 PM

Every year operators struggle to find and retain top talent. The pain of “we need great people” is a common theme amongst corporate, independent, and licensee operators alike. This discussion will explore actionable recruitment tactics that will provide a new hiring perspective within the “gig economy,” the realities of unemployment, the impact of associate engagement, how to brand your firm within the ultra-transparent social media age (Glassdoor, Indeed, Instagram, and others), and the true motivator and driver of the Millennial mindset.

"New Mobility in China"

With the largest middle class and internet user population in the world, China is entering the share-economy fast lane. VC backed start-ups eagerly offer shared bikes, umbrellas, mobile-phone chargers, offices, lodging and cars. China’s new generation is embracing this new life style with open arms. In the era of new mobility, more and more disruptive business models and startups have been tried and experimented with – some succeed but more have failed. Driven by world-leading high-speed rail and commercial airport network infrastructure, car-sharing is becoming the preferred choice of mobility by many for either urban business trips or leisure travel. This session will share insights of the new mobility landscape in China, both touching on today’s development as well as future opportunities.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Leo Cai, eHi Car Services

9:35 AM - 10:30 AM

On-demand rentals, including carsharing, may use different platforms to deliver their services, but an on-demand rental and a counter-based rental essentially provide the same service — use of another party’s vehicle for a specified period. And yet, it is not always clear which laws apply (or how) to on-demand rentals. This seminar will provide an overview of the legal issues surrounding on-demand rentals and discuss how to comply with laws that were often passed with a counter-based model in mind. Operators of any type of mobility service from a small, counter-based operation to a newer, app-based on-demand mobility service will learn how to navigate this changing legal landscape. Examples of developing issues include the use the telematics, receipt and handling of user data, membership criteria and monitoring, and other trending issues.

Presenters: Wes Hurst, Polsinelli; Leslie Pujo, Plave Koch

9:35 AM - 10:30 AM

From social networking and entertainment to online shopping and car rental, today’s customer expects their experience to be mobile. Travel bookings on mobile devices grew 14% in 2017 alone — those staying still in this rapidly changing environment will be left behind. This session will dig into the metrics of today’s customers and give attendees a blueprint for meeting customers’ mobile expectations. More than just building an app, this discussion will focus on effective data handling, time of transaction, and accessibility without making phone calls, among other topics.

Presenter: Shawn Concannon, TSD Rental LLC

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Networking Break

11:00 AM - 11:55 AM

Online consolidators of car rental bookings — brokers — offer an important channel of business for major car rental companies and independents alike. This seminar will give car rental operators insights into the types of brokers and their markets, show how brokers function, outline optimal use-case scenarios, and the pitfalls to avoid. Attendees will be given the tools to a mutually beneficial broker relationship that will best serve the car rental customer.

Presenters: Angela Margolit - Bluebird; Tony Davis - CarRental8; Stewart Brown - Advantage/EZ Rent A Car

11:00 AM - 11:55 AM

A rental transaction without a rental counter doesn’t necessarily mean you have to reinvent your business model — it should provide a frictionless customer experience while delivering operational savings to your business and bottom line. While small changes might work well for some, other opportunities allow operators to generate growth through new, tech-enabled services. But where do you start? This solutions-based seminar goes beyond the theoretical to applications you can implement by tweaking current operations or launching additional services that leverage your current infrastructure.

Moderator: Chris Brown

Panelists: Alex Thibault - Vulog; Alan Woodland - Invers; Chay Lowden - Green Motion

A new type of fleet owner is emerging to serve new markets such as commercial rentals to Uber and Lyft drivers and retail rentals through peer-to-peer platforms. Entrepreneurial and tech-savvy, these fleet suppliers are renting 20, 200 to 2,000 vehicles outside of the traditional model. In this New West of rental, the sweet spot to profitability depends on understanding depreciation, insurance, financing, and liability considerations for high utilization but high-mileage vehicles. Come see how it all works.

3:00 PM - 3:55 PM

There are many tactics top car rental operators deploy to “get” the job done and many variations of how people define success — but the common traits are an underlying passion for their business, the ability to view challenges in a positive way, and an appreciation for problem solving. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn ways to balance their time for quantifiable results, obtain 75%-80% of their sales and service results in 30% of their time, and leverage the power of perseverance to improve sales, service, and general operations. This workshop is designed for professionals who want a new perspective and demand actionable techniques.

Presenter: Ken Stellon - fpg

4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

What will your car rental operation look like in two years from now, or five, or 10? It’s easy to believe that the giant tech companies and the auto manufacturers themselves will dominate the transportation market. Will there be a place for the smaller car rental operator? Our blue-ribbon panelists will delve into the essential elements for survival for independent players, the evolution of the neighborhood market, the future of the franchise model, viable niche markets, technology that could level the playing field, and more. This seminar will dive deep past the disruption and present the possibilities for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.
