As the process of renting a car evolves, the economics evolve with it. This seminar convenes a diverse group of subject matter experts to analyze: financial reporting and metrics as vehicles are rented hourly, in multiple platforms, and in subscription models; changing GDS, OTA, and broker relationships in an app-based environment; selling ancillary products without a direct interaction with the customer; how connected car and telematics unlock new opportunities; and finally how profit margins will change in an autonomous environment? Answers to these questions will give operators a framework for success for the next generation of car rental.

Yet this varies even further within Latin America, as market conditions from country to country vary greatly. This seminar will present a data-rich and qualitative analysis of new mobility models across Latin America. Attendees will understand where these models are gaining traction, how they’re impacting individual markets, and whether car rental can take part.

Powerful new applications of telematics, biometrics, and data promise to enable a better car rental experience. At the same time, privacy laws (like the California Consumer Privacy Act effective January 1, 2020) are evolving, which may limit some uses of the new technology. This panel presentation will explore how privacy laws and vehicle rental laws affect use of new technology and assist operators in establishing their own best practices in areas such as tracking of vehicle location, sourcing data from connected cars, using telematics to monitor driving behavior and assess responsibility for vehicle damage, using surveillance cameras to monitor employees, and remote access to vehicles through biometrics, among other topics.
Servicio versus Ventas: El escenario "Todos ganan"
Service Vs. Sales: The Everyone Wins Scenario
Impossibly low daily rates in certain parts of Latin America pressures operators to capture profitability through high-pressure incremental sales, which negatively impacts customer service. However, there are strategies operators can use to maintain profitability and keep the customer happy. In this seminar, attendees will understand how consumer behavior is changing. We’ll discuss the three main customer service measurements used today, how to maximize GDS and broker relationships, monetize improvements in customer service, and strive for the perfect balance between service and sales — where everyone wins.
Sit down and hold on! In this rapid-fire format, subject matter experts will take the stage for seven minutes each to educate attendees on distinct, products, services, and opportunities available now. No theoretical discussions here — just real solutions that car rental operators can take back and implement immediately to improve efficiencies in their operations and boost their bottom line.
This seminar will convene a data-supported discussion on the trends in fleet, from planning to acquisition and disposal. Attendees will understand OEM supply developments specific to car rental, vehicle acquisition trends covering purchase vs. leasing and vehicle holding periods, auction updates, new developments in remarketing, and more.

How Car Rental Can Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence promises to automate manual processes, manage workflows, enhance the customer experience, and improve decision making in many industry sectors. The time to understand AI is now, as it is fundamental to the future of connected, autonomous and shared mobility — and global car rental players are using it already.

Rental fleets have a growing number of models with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and other new technologies. Though the benefits are tangible, repairing these complex systems is costly and requires extra training, while renting a vehicle that has not been properly repaired or recalibrated could result in increased risk of claims. This seminar will help operators navigate these new minefields with an understanding of the legal environment regarding installation and repair of these systems, OEM guidelines and procedures, and operational processes to ensure that renters stay safe and operators maintain peace of mind.

For busy operators, the only constant is change. As the car rental industry evolves, its many operating models, sales channels, customer service expectations, and products are evolving rapidly as well. Yet the changes leave operators left asking; “What is the future for ancillary and service-based sales?” and “What are the new products operators should be thinking about?” During this session, subject matter experts from Frontline Performance Group (FPG) and JD Power & Associates will explore these new offerings in a big picture context: how service and sales coincide, how the modern traveler’s mindset has changed, and how other parts of the travel spectrum — from airlines to cruises — have addressed the balance of service and ancillary sales to drive profitability in this new era.
Presenters: Ken Stellon, FPG; Jenni Corwin, JD Power
The importance of selling “at the right price, at the right time, to the right customer, through the right channel,” is essential to survive in this age of dynamic pricing. In this presentation, pricing experts from across the spectrum join forces to encapsulate key learnings from hundreds of rental operators globally. They’ll deep-dive into the key drivers of success, including RPU, RPD, utilization, revenue, and channel metrics. Attendees will understand new ways to automate and unify manual and disparate systems using technology and AI, how to balance self-service and the human touch, and employ simple tips and “hacks.” Attendees will bring home tools to streamline operations, promote a happier support team, and drive measurable improvements to your customer’s experience.

As daily rental operators explore new mobility models — or even if they’re sticking with traditional rentals — they must confront rapidly evolving forms of driver and vehicle risk. Drawing from real-life examples leveraging technology and innovative solutions, this panel presentation will educate operators on the new environment. Panelists will explore how to mitigate damage and claims costs with increasingly short-term and on-demand rental periods, multiple periods of risk, and increasing driver distraction. Attendees will take home a better understanding of the new insurance models that will help manage their risk, claims, and insurance in the face of these new challenges.
Presenters: Claire Alleaume, IMS; Ian Sweeney, Trov
The need for vehicles is increasing, yet how, when, and where they’re accessed is changing. This seminar will demonstrate how traditional rental operators can leverage their fleet — and fleet management expertise — in new carsharing, peer-to-peer, and subscription services platforms by the hour, day, month, or longer. After an overview of the models, attendees will know how to leverage the right technology, plan fleet and predict demand, handle maintenance, fueling, and cleaning, and understand the key measurements of profitability. By rethinking their fleets for “Vehicles as a Service,” operators are open to new sources of demand and profits.
